Mother’s Day Card #4

Leave a Comment Written by Administrator

Add something a bit unexpected.

From the crimped card stock to the peek-a-boo pearls, this card uses some of the traditional layering techniques of card making with a twist.

You can always take a design and pop something through a design to add interest.  Give it a try with various hole punchers and see what you think!

Happy Creating!

Funeral Potatoes the Controversy!

May05
2011
Leave a Comment Written by Administrator

The name almost makes it seem like the most dreary potato ever that you “deep sigh” shlep with you to console someone who lost a loved one quietly wearing dark colors and whispering to others in a musty parlor, but believe it or not these potatoes are a favorite amongst party goers too.

The Dilemma:

One Sunday I was talking to my Mom as we do every week, when she was telling me of a conversation she had with her daughter in law’s Mom.

“What would you like to bring for her Birthday Celebration?” the Mom asked.

My Mom delightfully answered: “Funeral Potatoes!”

The Mom grimased and said ” Well maybe you should bring something else.”

(Did you giggle to yourself?  I did when I first heard it from my Mom.  The giggle was followed by an “oh my gosh I can’t believe she said that”.

Now my Mom is a very sweet woman but ultimately not the best when it comes to knowing when she has offended someone.  So what does one do when they want to bring a dish that has a name that could have another not so nice meaning?

Yes we could call it very cheesy potato casserole but that isn’t fun.

My suggestion to her was to rename it the Celebration of Life Potatoes, so no one will misinterpret the act of bringing them to a party, luncheon regardless the situation.

If you agree help me start the “Celebration of Life” Potato Revolution by telling your friends and asking them to tell their friends.

Together we can make a fabulous potato dish that no one can misconstrue and that everyone will love to bring along!

And Mom I still love you Funeral Potatoes and all.

Warm Regards,

Jenna

Mother’s Day Card #3

Using one package of scrapbook paper can yield many different card layouts.

This particular set of cards from Mother’s Day Cards 1 – 3 were all made from the Paisley collection from Stampin’ Up!  The trick is using layers to create different types of card layouts.

For example the bottom piece of scrapbook paper for this card is actually the design on the back of the scrapbook paper layered on top.

Framing with a coordinating card stock also helps frame the designs you use in your layers.

Mother’s Day Card #2

Today’s card features not only 3D elements and but also the use of punches to bring out the Marina mist behind the scrapbook paper.  Can you tell which piece is 3D?

The answer is the square with the Happy Mother’s Day salutation.  Did you also know that the techniques you see me use for cardmaking can also be re-used when scrapbooking.  It is true most artist techniques can be transferred from one medium to the other with a little tweeking.

This week I’ll be focusing posts on Mother’s Day and featuring cards and gifts you can try to show your Mom how much you love her!

So this week’s first card is an oval blossom with paisley paper combo.  All supplies are Stampin’ Up!  I love the contrast of all of the colors.

Mothers Day Card 1

Tip:  When choosing scrap book paper to use in a project look for colors and designs that you are drawn to, the more you like a paper the more likely you’ll be able to create more new and interesting projects with that paper.

Mother’s Day is just around the corner and on the minds of many – What do I get my Mom that shows her how much I appreciate her?

Mother’s Day is May 8th

Your answers are here…

First take a moment and think of the qualities you love most about your Mom and what has been important to her in her life.

Next think about the gifts you’ve given her in the past and how she reacted to them.

Ask yourself…

Does she prefer time you spend together?

Is she sentimental?

Does she cherish the gifts you make for her?

The answer to these questions will shape what to give your Mom.  Here are some ideas for each question as you look for the best way to celebrate you Mom this Mother’s Day.

Question 1: Does she prefer time you spend together?  If the answer is yes then try these ideas.

a)    Homemade Brunch

b)   Dinner at her favorite Restaurant

c)    Scavenger Hunt around the city or town you live finding all of her favorite things

d)   Spend time together doing her favorite activity

Question 2: Is she sentimental?

a)    A scrapbook of pictures of you and her with handwritten messages telling her how much she means to you.

b)   Framed Collage of all of her favorite things

c)    A Montage of her life with notes from you scattered in between clips and photos

d)   Handwritten Poem

Question 3: Does she cherish the gifts you make for her?

a)    Make a handmade scarf using her favorite colors.

b)   Fill a beautiful Pot with assorted flowers for her to watch bloom this year.

c)    Paint her apiece of pottery to be displayed in her Kitchen.

d)   Make her a necklace that symbolizes a mother’s love.

The possibilities are endless and I hope you are on your way to making this Mother’s Day unforgettable!

Warm Wishes!

Jenna

A Note on Journalling

Scrapbooking is a way to tell a story to preserve a memory. Journal-ling is accounting for details of a moment, captureing parts of a story piece at a time. So, naturally nournal-ling and scrapbooking go hand in hand.

It is easy to journal, just keep a book close by where you will see it every day and commit to writing something about your day for a set period of time. If you make it just extend your deadling. Before you know it you’ll have recorded the history of your life!
